A space in which to experiment. The Viúva Lamego factory offers a meeting point for creatives and master craftspeople to form a bond fostering discovery.
From the 1930s onwards, one of the fundamental elements at Viúva Lamego has been its collaborative work with visual artists, who have seen the creative potential of the characteristics of tiles. Through being present in the factory, talking to the craftspeople and being involved in all the stages of projects, creatives from different backgrounds have contributed towards revitalising artistic ceramics in Portugal.
One of the most paradigmatic cases is that of Jorge Barradas, whose multifaceted career began in the areas of humour and advertising and culminated in ceramics and tiles. The pioneering work he developed in this area - partly created at Viúva Lamego -, contributed to his being considered a key figure in the rebirth of ceramics within Portugal and a source of inspiration to several younger artists who followed him, such as Manuel Cargaleiro and Querubim Lapa.
Viúva Lamego is a factory that is open to the world, with its 171 years of history and know-how, not to mention its focus on the future, on developing new approaches and on innovating. A virtuous cycle that enhances artistic creation and know-how, through close collaboration between creatives and craftspeople.
With the Author's identification (updated portfolio and a cover letter) and the project description (present the project you intend to develop in the factory, as detailed as possible).
Once the eligibility of the proposal has been confirmed, an assessment of the resources required is made, such as support teams, materials, physical space and estimated duration. Depending on the respective assessment, a budget will be made and sent.
