Lisbon, 22nd January 2023 - Continuing its long tradition of collaborations with renowned artists and architects, in a mutual challenge between the author and the factory-atelier, Viúva Lamego is presenting the "Duna Collection by Joana Astolfi" at the next edition of Maison&Objet.
The new collection, which will be displayed in Paris between 18 and 22 January, is the result of a collaboration between the architect, artist and designer Joana Astolfi and the century-old Viúva Lamego, and is the result of a combination of contrasts: sunset and sunrise; desert and ocean; sand and sky. Opposites that reflect the two cities that inspire the artist - Lisbon and Marrakech.
Earth, nature, landscape, shapes, geometry and colour are the elements that characterise the project, according to Astolfi. "Dune" unfolds in four different designs, all handcrafted on 14x14 cm tiles, available in three different colours, which allow for an endless number of compositions. This reflects Astolfi's interpretation of traditional tiles with Viúva Lamego's unmistakable signature.
"The shapes and colours that make up the four patterns are inspired by the natural landscape and the desert experience, and the collection breathes a feminine touch guided by the phases of the moon and is at the same time an ode to my daughter, named Duna," the artist explains.
At a time when the century-old brand is celebrating 175 years of history, the artistic collaborations are still as lively as ever and are an example of how the know-how of the factory-atelier is combined with continuous innovation and the constant sharing of knowledge.
